Good evening gentlemen,

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to clone tapes from one Legato server to another across a network?

I've got two Sun servers running 5.5.1 (yes, I know, but I am forbidden to upgrade at this time) and I want to use the jukebox on the second server to clone the tapes from the jukebox on the first server.

If this is possible, could someone tell me how I would go about setting this up? I've inherited this system, and I'm very new to Legato

Take a look at an admin guide and look for "Firewall" in the table of contents - the ports that would need to be opened (assuming you have firewalls between your boxes) are by no means trivial. Also - since you have such an old version I'm not sure if the port information in a newer manual would be accurate.

Most recent Networker Admin Guide - Unix:
And, of course, you'll need to have a network robust enough to support something like this - you don't mention if you're talking about a local lan or a WAN.

This does not make sense. As the second NW server does not know anything about the media, you must run at least "scenner -m" before you can clone the volume. So it will take even longer.

Thank you both for the tip.

Goony - This will be done over local LAN, on a special back-ups vlan.

605 - Would it make more sense to hang the second jukebox off the same scsi chain as the primary jukebox and only use one server?

Sure, that's how you usually do it. Because then the data can be transported directly. And the server knows where the clone tape is.
