I need to clone a database that resides on a UNIX server onto my pc which is running XP. I am not sure if there are any hurdles in doing so. Can this be done and is there anything I need to do above the usual db cloning steps?

My thanks in advance.

Adrian

You can do that with exp/imp process only. The cloning between different OS is done with export/import.

Once you finish the export from the UNIX box, ftp in BINARY (ftp> bin) mode to the Windows XP box. Then import. It works like a charm.

Hope that helps,

cliousa,
Thanks for your reply. When I have the binary file on my local machine are there any special instructions with the import, or does the import utility treat the file just like every other export file?

Hi,
Only thing that you should need is to enter in the User ID that exported the dump, second last prompt for the imp utility.

Create the tablespace into the blank instance.

I had to run a scipt to add the users and grant permissions prior to running the import.

Pete,
