Clipping path is not importing into Illustrator

I've placed into Illustrator a tif which has a clipping path in it, however the image appears with the white background remaining.

What am I doing wrong ? It is possible to import an image with a clipping path, isn't it?

Sorry, I've worked it out.

The file has to be an EPS if one wants to import a clipping path.
