When I scroll in Internet Explorer or similar I hear clipping and annoying sounds when playing mp3 in Winamp.
Has this something to do with my soundcard or is it Winamp related? How do I get rid of it?

thanks in advance. /Sören

Maybe look in the winamp output-preferences and configure the WaveOut-Plugin that is used in winamp.

You can select there wich device should be used for playback. It is possible that this option is set to a software playback device wich is commonly bad if you don't have an old SB Pro or something similar as soundcard.

So better select the soundcard for playback there.

Hope that helps..

Did you download the .mp3s or rip them yourself? If you got them from a file swapping program (a la Naptser) then it might be the security encoding some record companies have built into their CDs. When a song is transferred into mp3 format it's designed to create a slight sort of popping/skipping kind of distortion (It's hard to describe), to discourage people from sharing them.
Have you noticed it happening at the same point in the same songs each time? If it is then it might be this..

I'd also watch your memory. If your system is very low on physical memory then even simple tasks like scrolling through a web page can cause paging that will cause slight clipping...

If you are using 90%+ of your ram then I'd guess the problem would be that. Ram is cheap, throw in an extran 128Megs.

thanks a lot for your input.

The songs are mixed. some ripped by myself and some borrowed from a friend. When I come to think of it, It doesn't happen all the time. Now for instance, I can scroll as much as I want to, without the disturbance.

The system resources are never as high as 90%

I'll try to switch output devices in winamp the next time I hear the clipping sound.
