Clipper and Dos applications with Windows 2000

I am fairly new to Clipper but a Management Database system written in Clipper was incorporated into a Novell server. The database runs fine with Windows 95 and 98 clients and even with NT but the Windows 2000 especially the professional has a habit of freezing on the dos logon screen. I have heard that Windows 2000 has removed a lot of Dos support from their Operating system. Does anyone have any advice as I currently can't upgrade the management system to a pure windows format due to the enormity of the task. Is it a client/server software problem as I loaded Novell client software for win 2000 so that it could access the database on the Novell server or is it another problem?

Hi,
We have been running Clipper apps with Win2000 (particularly W2K Professional) without experiencing the problem that you have described. Perhaps it is a Client/Server problem with Novell. You may want to try (if possible) move the database to a Windows O/S to see if the problem persists.
The problem we are running into is that the command to invoke DOS shell does not work when supplied with an argument.

What type of client server software are you using? On a Novell network, Pervasive (btrieve) works very nicely.

I have experienced problems with Win98 and clipper loading the Netware client software, but If I use Microsoft's Client for Netware it works just fine. If possible, you may want to try unloading the Netware client and load Microsft's client for Netware.
