This is probably a very common novell problem, but I have one netware 5.1 server with about 25 clients, and throughout they day the clients appear to be randomly kicked off the server for a few seconds or a few minutes and this messes up any word/excel documents they have been working on or any databases they were accessing.
I'm new with novell, so does anyone have any suggestions of why or what could cause this? This has been going on since I was here.

At the console, type VERSION and it will tell you there. -----------------------------------------------------

We are currently on SP2. Do you think upgrading to SP5 fix any of these problems of freezing/disconnects?
I heard someone say that microsoft deliberately sabotages their software so it wont work properly with anything but a windows server. Is there any truth to this? ~Apex1x

Microsoft don't need to do any sabotage, their software automatically does that as standard.

Anyway, you have to bear in mind that upgrading the server alone probably won't do much - you will probably have to update your workstation clients to the latest version as well. -----------------------------------------------------

I have two netware 5.1 server and we got the same probleme the clients appear to be randomly kicked off the server for a few seconds. This morning thez simplely cound'nt have the logging window.
We noticed that this happened since we have plugged the servers throught the switch Baystack 350 from Nortel, it looks like if that is a probleme of speed configuration
between the devices.
We have tried to set the NIC with inetcfg with no sucess
Does anybody know what to do ?
Does anybody else encounter this probleme
Many thanks

Not only do you have to force your servers speed and duplex settings, but you also have to do the same on your switch. Ensure the ports where your servers are lugged into are forced to the same speed/duplex that the servers are forced to.

Once the ports are forced to (for example) 100Mb Half Duplex, do the same via INETCFG on your servers and reboot. -----------------------------------------------------

Firts of all: Thank you for your repply

I wrote :"We have tried to set the NIC with inetcfg with no sucess"
what I meam is that we can't modify the speed parameter on the INETCFG /board menu menu I only got:

BOARD NAME:3C90X_1
slot number 10007
NODE Undefined
Comment
Board status enable

How can I set the speed parameter ?
Thank you for your repply

Hmmm, what driver version are you running? -----------------------------------------------------

We are using two hubs. Are there any configuration I need to do with the hubs? I have already set the server's NIC and all the clients to half duplex and they all have the latest client version.
I also set those cache settings that were mentioned earlier. Not much has improved though :(
Will it ever be possible to have a smooth running system with no disconnections? Maybe its a problem with the Business Visions and Telemagic software...

I think the latest version of 3C90X.LAN is v5.4 so you could try updating to that.

apex1x - can you force your hub ports to the same speed/duplex setting as you have configured on your server? -----------------------------------------------------

I am using the latest version from 4 January 1999

I have been to Novell support they haven't made nothing since

Ok. How do I change the settings of the hubs/switches? ~Apex1x

philcesnac - you get the latest 3Com drivers from the 3Com website not Novell - -----------------------------------------------------
