I'm trying to create two VLANs on a small network consisting of about 20 clients connecting to a Cisco 2900XL switch. Right now all the clients are obtaining their IP's from a DHCP server. I know how to create two scopes on Windows 2003 Server, but how can I make sure that the clients are getting the right scopes? Basically, I need to push out the scopes to the right PC. Do I need two Ethernet conections on the DHCP server to do this?

You will have to configure the IP Helper(DHCP Relay) on the Cisco switch to forward the discovers for the clients on one VLAN to the DHCP server VLAN.

You do not need two interfaces. After you set up the ip helper on the Cisco side the DHCP server will know which subnet the request for IP is comming from. The information is in the request packet. The DHCP server will provide the address for the proper subnet. For redundancy you could add a second DHCP server and do an 80/20 split for each subnet. All info on Microsoft web site.

Happy Hunting...

Thanks...I decided to use a Cisco PIX to provide IP address for the other subnet.
