We are running MAS90 v4.05 on our network with the client installed on the local machines.

Our reseller has installed a local version of v4.10 on 1 workstation for us to test for a few days.

If I share this local version on this one workstation with a few network users and create a separate drive mapping to it, could it cause any problems with the v4.05 we have running?

If so, how do you recommend I share this out? Remote Desktop or Netmeeting?

Thanks
Sue

To be very honest I would NOT share 4.10 with anyone. Plus you should NOT have it running on any work station that is also running 4.05. Very bad things will happen. Personally I am putting off upgrading 4.05 until 4.20 comes out.

Do you think it is okay to have them connect using a "netmeeting" or "remote desktop"?

NetMeeting or Remote Desktop would be fine. The issues are your forms and reports. 4.10 uses Crystal 10 while 4.05 uses 8.5. It takes a very skilled professional to get both to run on the same work station and it ain't easy. I would expect you to break your reports if you tried it.

There is no ploblem running 4.10 and 4.05 on the same workstation. The DLL's that work for 4.10 also work for 4.05 but not vice versa.

If you want to run them both you MUST run the 4.10 second.

That's really all there is to RUNNING the two verions on the same desktop.

If you plan on doing design work. You must be very careful because, as was mentioned earlier, they run on different versions. If you modify a 4.10 RPT with Crystal v8.5 that report is riuned. If you modify a 4.05 RPT with Crystal v10 that report is ruined.

Typically you will receive an SWCOCX error at line 170 when you try to run a report that was altered in the wrong version.

If for what ever reason you end up in DLL hell with crystal and mas uninstall the workstation and all registry entries and reinstall. 4.10 has to be installed last.

While Chris may say that there is no problem everyone I know that has tried it has ended up ruining at least one form or report. And the DLL hell he mentions happens often. So as I said before, unless you are a skilled professional in MAS and Crystal I would not try it.

Thanks Guys,

I opted for the v4.10 to run locally and then just you a netmeeting remote desktop for access to view the version.

I think that was the safest solution.
