Hi guys,

Got an issue in one of our branch offices.

Basically the server was restored by somebody else. Basically though all the XP clients can connect no problem but Vista cannot, the Vista PCs all get:

"An error occured attempting to join domain: comunitycare.

An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in domain being joined has failed. Please ensure this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain."

It is setup to do that and removed the TCP/IP ver 6 as recommended by some but nothing.

I can't see my DNS being wrong but maybe it is.

Any help appreciated as always.

Hello,

Verify that all Networking Services are running, esp. the Computer Browser.
Also, when you attempt to change the Workgroup to the Domain, browse in More... and verify that on Primary Suffux of this Computer has your Domain Name listed (ex. companyname.local).
You've also mentioned DNS, make sure that the problematic computer is pointing to an Internal IP of your server's DNS and not external DNS.

Hope this helps.
