What is the network protocol Client for Microsoft Networks in regards to a local isp dial-up connection? From the information I have found it appears it only acts as a band-aid to save the password used to connect to the specified isp, and it should be listed as the primary network logon in all Windows operating systems except ME. Any info would be great.

Thanks,
JaCeW

First of all, it does not need to be the "primary network logon" unless you log into a domain (such as on a LAN/WAN in your office) at startup.

Secondly, dial-up connections require Client for MS Networks because it forms a binding with the TCP/IP protocol and the adapter (modem). This relationship is necessary for many ISP's to help control and set WINS and DNS settings.

That may not be an exact explanation of what's happening, but the bottom line is that your entire network stack is relatively dependent on its existence in the configuration.
