Getting this error on a machine that was working fine but hadnt been used in a month due to a bad video card, I had to installed a new video card yesterday and when I tried to get into the server it says
" The remote session was disconnected because the local computer client license could not be upgraded or renewed"

My TS is in per device licensing and I have 30 CALs, I never have more than 20 people on at a time right now. The client is a windows xp professional.

I have tried a reinstall over windows but that didnt work, I dont really want to have to compltely reinstall.

Hi!

What are the versions of the terminal server and the terminal server licensing server?

If the licensing server happens to be Win2k and pre-SP3, there is a problem with TS license expiration that was either fixed in SP3 or SP4.

2003 Enterprise edition, licensing server is on terminal server

Hi!

Try deleting the MSLicensing key from the client.

The key is located at HKLM\Software\Microsoft.

So, based on your statments... the Terminal Server License server is functioning properly on the actual terminal server.

What can you see in the Terminal Server License MMC? How many licenses have been handed out? You should look here first to see if there is a problem. Did you properly turn on your license server? You need to activate the 30 licenses...sometimes a call to Microsoft is required for this.

You also might want to set the default License server IP for your terminal server. Here how:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters
Add the following value:
Name: DefaultLicenseServer
Data type: REG_SZ
Data value: ServerName

Substitute the name or IP address
