I'm using Arc Serv 9 on Win2K server.
I installed on the server I want to do a backup the client agent and everything is ok.
My Arc Serv Server is on my lan and I have to do the backup of a server in my DMZ through my Cisco Firewall thatis member of another domain.
When I trie to browse the server I receive an error:

Failed to login to the agent

Maybe I have to open some port on my firewall to do this ?

Thank you

The client agent uses 6050, the database agents are on 6070

regards

I still have the problem.
I tried to open any for the Server in the firewall but when I trie to connect to the server I received the error: Failed to login to the agent.

The server in DMZ with the agent is member of another domain respect the Arc Serv Server.
Can this be a problem ?

- check if the agent service is running
- check how security is configured in the client agent admin
(through system security of password security)
- check the Windows user you use to connect, is it configured according to CA's recommendations (see : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\Task\Backup)
- check if you use Domain Name\User name when you try to connect

regards

- the agent service is running
- the client agent security method is System Security
- in the registry I have only this keys:
- BackupRegistry
- Buffers
- ConfirmOverwrite
- HardLinks
- I use the right string to specify the domain name\User

As a test bring up the Client Agent administration program on the target. Under configuration enter a password. Now at the backup server when configuring the job enter that same password and put in a user name. It does not matter what user name is used. If this works then you know it is just a permissions problem.

I tried to set the password on Client Agent and then set the same password on Server but it still doesn't work.

I was having the same problem of "Failed to login to the Agent" on my Arcserve 2000 to NT 4.0 server. I fixed it by hard coded the IP address on the NT 4.0 server Backup agent. Now I could connect to the server via agent. Hope this help.
