I have just assumed responsibility for the Meridian Option 11 (Rel 21.54) supporting about 50 phones at one location and have a very similar question to what was posted here:

To summarize, we are currently displaying our main company phone number on all outgoing calls. I have several different departments that want their outbound calls to show something other than our main company phone number.

Our requirements are as follows:

a. I have one department that want the CallerId to display their phone number taking into account the extention they are calling from within our company

b. I have another department that wants the CallerId to display their published 800 number from all the extentions within this department.

I have reviewed the CLID documentation from ghtrout's website at the following URL:

I have read the both the Meridian1_CLID.pdf and Nortel's updated guide for called ID NTP # NN48500-515.

Within the Meridian1_CLID.pdf, I see mention of "Prior to to X11 Release 22 the CLID generated on a transferred or conferenced call was inconsistent... The CLID enhancement rectified these operations".

Therefore, my questions are as follows:

1) Since I'm running Rel 21.54, I believe I just need to upgrade to Release 22 (or later) in order to get the CLID enhancement. Is this assumption correct?

2) Our phone system generally works fine for us, except this CLID issue. Therefore, I do NOT need to perform an upgrade to the latest and greatest version. I just want to upgrade to a version that will support my CLID requirements outlined above. Therefore, I'm planning to upgrade to Release 22 in order to limit my headaches. Is this a recommended approach?

3) Is upgrading to Release 22 something I can do myself, with phone support from or should I look to bring in a consultant to complete?

4) Assuming for the moment that my PBX is setting the current outbound callerId (and the telco is not providing my current outbound CLID), after I complete the Release 22 upgrade, I would support my CLID requirements by setting a CLID table in the CDB then assign a table to a phone. The CLID value could be a 800 number, or phone number of one of the extentions. The phone will then send out whatever phone number is in the CLID Table.

Many thanks to all who respond.

You cannot upgrade from 21.54 to 22. Nortel (Avaya) will not provide you with the required activation code.

Thanks for the response. However, I'm not 100% clear on what you mean. Specifically, I'm not sure if you mean:

a. I can't personally upgrade from 21.54 to 22 as I need an activation code. Therefore, I would need to bring in Nortel (Avaya) to perform the upgrade (and purchase an activation code)

or

b. An upgrade path from 21.54 to 22 does not exist. Therefore, I can't support CLID in the manner I described above.

If you wouldn't mind, please clarify.

Thanks,

You need an activation code (from Avaya) in order to upgrade from 21.54. to 22. Due to the age of the 21.54 system, they will not give it to you. The only upgrade which they will provide for you would be to upgrade to the current version (CS 1000 X21 6.0).

Thanks for your feedback; you have been extremly helpful!

Any clue on the ballpark for an upgrade from 21.54 -> CS 1000 X21 6.0?

Also, I see you are listed with the title of Vendor? Is this a service you provide? If yes, can you provide me with your contact details?

What type of trunking do you have? Do you have analog C O trunks, Digital trunks or Pri? This will preclude and up grades. The C O analog display clid that assigned by the serving C O. Digital trunks usually display the billing number unless you have made other arraignments. Also and upgrade would require a new processer card and cabinet. If you using Meridian Mail you going to have to upgarde that to Call Pilot. I not sure there is an upgrade path because your software is so old. A new install from data collected would probaly be the best business plan if you want to stick with the Opt 11.

Once again, thank you for your response. We are using PRI.

I'm not sure what this means... do you mind explaining?

Thanks...

Because your software release is end of life and manufacture discontinued an upgrade/migration path is not avaiable. The system configuration information would need to be gathered and entered by "hand" with a new processor card. Back to the original question. Are all of your dn's did numbers? CLID data usally without exception has to be vaild numbers in your did range. Gather that information from your dial tone provider.

Thanks for the response. I'm looking into dn's did numbers and will know more once I hear back from my provider.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, it's the processor card which stores the version of the Option 11 software. So although the software is end of life, by replacing the processor card (which has a new version of the software), this would be a back door way to get the upgrade.

If I found a vendor who could provide such a service, any thoughts on a ballpark price for this processor card?

Any recommendation on a vendor who can provide a processor card and/or perform the actual install/upgrade? I'm located in North Jersey, about 20 miles outside of NYC.

Once again, I can't tell you guys how grateful I am for this education.
