I am unable to get the Alpha Tagging to work using the speed dial feature on a CICS 6.1.

I have used this many times in the past. Customer like this because when they get calls from cell phones that only lets say CELL PHONE CALL they can use a System Speed Dial code and enter in a name and that name will override the C/O CID.

Ay suggestions? I have checked the CLID MATCH and it says 8.

I believe Alpha Tagging was introduced in version 4.1

System Coordinator Guide said:
Alpha tagging feature: This feature offers name display for calls coming in over lines that offer number-only display services.

My understanding is that the Alpha tagging feature doesn't override the name provided by CO; it only complements the number when there is no name.

If the CO actually provides the "CELL PHONE CALL" name, it would explain why the speed dial name isn't shown.

I use this quite often with mics systems and it always override the caller ID name from the central office. I believe this is the first time I've used this with a CICS. central office That's why I was so confused when I tried to use it this time.

MICS will override the CO NAME I just tested it again last night.

Not that I don't believe you, firefoxfire, but I want to make sure we are on the same page here.

CID may contain:

A) a number and a name, or
B) a number only.

When there is a number only, some CO will send that number only. Some other CO will provide a replacement name, such as "CELL PHONE CALL" or "Unknown name".

When a phone is set to show the name but the CO doesn't send any name, the number is shown instead.

Does the CID sent by the CO contain a number and a name or does it contain a number only?

Also, you tested alpha tagging on CICS 6.1. Which software version does the MICS have?

If MICS actually overrides the name sent by the CO, it wouldn't be the first time that the manual has an error...

Yes the CO is sending the CID Name and Number all the time.
Test on MICS 6.1 and 7.1.

Last night I entered the work TEST with my 10 digit telephone number for SD code 255. I called in and the word TEST was displayed. I deleted the entry for DS Code 255 and the CID name changed back to what the CO was sending.

Interesting this one.....because the manual states what we did.

I wonder if carrier technology changed and it now sends number first where it used to send name first and now leaves it up to the phone system to reverse or leave it.

Is the set told in programming to display name or number first?
I wonder if changing back to number first on your test system if it would then not work.
