We have a problem with one of our NT machines. Once Windows is loaded and the user is logged on, clicking on the desktop icons do not do anything. We reboot the machine and the problem goes away. We also notice this after the individual comes back from lunch, requiring a restart to fix the problem. We have installed all of the patches to no avail. Outside of reinstalling the OS, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a ton!

Have you run a fix for SIRCAM. I had a machine like that and it was the Sircam virus.

We have the latest dat files for Norton AV, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Have you tried turning off any power management in the bios?

Thanks Paulmac and Kjonnnn!

We'll look into the power managment. In the meantime, any other suggestions are sure welcome.

Even with the updates Sircam comes back.. u have dig to get it out

I would scan the harddrive for viruses and check to see if this user has downloaded anything naughty. If they have, start uninstalling. It is possible that this machine has been infected by a virus that the latest NAV defs don't protect against ie. Anna Kournakova....
