Recently I have been having the problem of clicking on hyperlinks that will take me to new pages in some websites or in emails or in technical emails that produce no results, in other words I am not taken to the new page. This does not happen for all hyperlinks, it seems as if the problem is with hyperlinks in websites more than it is a problem with links in emails, although that can happen, just not nearly as much. Any ideas?

I forgot to add what browsers I am running

I mainly use IE version 5.50.4522.1800CO
update version SP1, Q279328
Customized Version

I also have NN loaded on my machine but only use it to check websites before I upload them.

Found the problem, it was a high security setting in my java section of IE tools.

Oops spoke too soon. I am still having this problem, even in this forum. If you go down below this screen to the link dealing with the issue of promoting and selling or recruiting etc and click on the link called 'click here' nothing happens. However lowering my security setting in the microsoft VM java permissions to low safety seems to clear it up a lot, but not completely. Any ideas?

Fixed it!!!! I will never know what the problem was as I used the repair capabilites built into IE through the add/remove program dialogue window. Never knew it was there, a very cool feature.

What exactly did you do? I also have this problem. Especially in this forum. Sara

He ran the repair tool for IE5. Start>settings> add/remove programs>microsoft internet explorer. When you attempt to remove the program you will get an option to repair.

Hope this helps.

I went there and for some reason my Internet Explorer isn't in my add/remove programs. Do you know why that would happen? Will I need to reinstall IE and should I uninstall first? Sara

I would reinstall IE5. That should repair any corrupted files and put it in your add & remove programs folder.

I also tried to fix this problem with IE6. It was not showing in my add/remove programs screen so I reinstalled. It's still not showing in my add/remove programs. ARGH!

You may want to download IE6 again as it seems to be missing files.

Sara,

Doubtful, but try typing this into the Run box:

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance

Sara,

You can also go to Tools>Internet Options, click the Advanced tab and either check or uncheck "reuse windows for launching shortcuts". You'll need to shutdown and restart.

I tried your solution. I ran:
Code:
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

EUREKA! It worked! Thank you for the help.

You're right, IE6 it is.

To have it appear in the list, open Notepad and copy and paste the following between the lines and save the file as ie6uninstall.reg. Double-click on the file to merge the contents into the registry. This assumes you have installed to the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer folder.

=================BEGIN CUT===============
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\IE40]
@=""
"DisplayName"="Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools"
"UninstallString"="rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance \"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\Setup\\SETUP.EXE\" /g \"C:\\WINDOWS\\IE Uninstall Log.Txt\""
======================END CUT====================
