Good day,
I am using a NEC Electra Professional system. Just today the system started making an unusual (on all lines) sound every 3-4 seconds. The sound is similar to a broken connection. This sound can be heard on both ends of the phone line (the in-house phone and the outside line calling in). I've tried restarting and resetting the system with no resolution to the problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim

Hmmm... interesting.

Well, here comes about 300 questions... lol

* Do you have a fax machine on the lines anywhere that could be dialing out?
* What about a fax "Stick" or other fax switching device?
* Any modems on the lines that are trying to dial out? (since I don't know your business, could be a modem, ATM, Credit card terminal, gas pumps, fire panel, etc.)
* Do you have voicemail? Is it working properly? Does the problem go away if you MB the voicemail?
* Do you have T1 lines or POTS lines?
* Have you made any changes? Are your pots lines Loop start or Ground start? (if that is set wrong, that will cause collisions)

Let me know. :)

As it turns out, 72 hours after it started, the system healed itself. Prior to the recovery, I did double check that it was the system (plugged in an independent headset to the in-coming lines and no clicking was heard).

To fill in the gaps - there were no modifications to the system. Faxes are handled outside the system, voicemail was not in use, no modems connected to/through the system, and no T1 lines.

Thanks for posting some questions/suggestions. Though I'm glad it's working again, I kind of wish I knew what the problem was so that I could ensure that it won't happen again.
