Been going through my first experiences with R11 these last 2 weeks, and am coming across the annoyance of Manager listing what IP/H323 extensions don't have a password on them, and now discovered if I want to blank-out a digital or analog port, it can't be done. Seem to need to have an extension of 2-15 digits assigned onto it. My SM tab in System>Telephony is blank, and I've not yet found any security settings that would dictate this setting. Any one else come across this, and is there a new setting somewhere I've overlooked? I see this being an issue with multi-site deployments that include 500's and expansion modules, if we have to come up with arbitrary extension numbers on these physical ports when we don't need them for anything.

I was literally about to make a post for the same thing. You can't blank out the extension's which I always do when doing digital systems then fill them in later once everyone is logged in. What about folks who want to hot desk with this method?

jayjr1105 -- users can still hot desk onto the ports, even if the port is not blank. When they logoff the port it will just show the base extension that is on the port, and No User, unless they temporarily took a phone over that is on a port matching the extension of another user. My issue is in an SCN you don't want ports to have matching anything, especially extensions on other systems. The larger the SCN, especially in a server edition environment that can have 30+ nodes, the harder it's gonna be to avoid overlap. You may have seen this, but it's not an issue if the port is blank already, and you are doing nothing with it any other settings on it. For hell of it, i just tried to set an analog port on my lab from standard phone to IVR, and i got the warning i needed to set a base extesnion. This is really a PIA.

Blank digital or analog stations are still possible but you have to be creative.

I have a IPO 500v2 here with a DS 8 and a Phone 8.
After initialization thephones are numbered fromm 201 to 216 as expected.
Te phone numberscannot be deleted, as you mentioned.

So, what to do?
Export the whole configuration as a .csv file.
Delete the DS and analog ports, manager telld you that a reboot is required to get them back, do not reboot, do not save the config.
Open the csv file and delete everything before "Extension_Info_Start" and everything after "Extension_Info_End".
Then delete the extension numbers, save the file and import theconfig back.

Voila, all extensions are back without a number, reboot and job done. No warnings in Manager neither in SSA.
The ugly thing is is the system is running for some time and you assign a number to a port it is not easy to erase the number, you must do the aboveprocedure again and a reboot is required (i think, not testet yet)

If Avaya have read this then in the next SP they will kill this "trick" or restore the old programming mode.
For IP phones I can understand the need to have a extension number and password, hackers are everywere but DS and Alog phone ports cannot be hacked.

Can't blank out but you can renumber as I just did this successfully.

Having worked on Legend and Magix long before IP Office, I use a kind of "setup space" numbering plan that was used there.

I like 7+the Slot+the Port - so Base Card 1, Port 1 is x7011. Base Card 4, port 8 is x7048. Expansion modules are just 7+the logical ID. Expansion 1, port 2 is 7102

Use the Extension Renumber tool on the fresh system, and then renumber the ports as needed when doing the hotdesk install.

I always clear unused ports so i know they are unused when i remote to the system.

I also do that and this has been the case from the moment i learned it from Intrigrant :)
I started on version 3.0 and i really think this is a bug but knowing Avaya they will say design intend.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
