The way I see it the 2 routes below are identical as far as my system is concerned. There are no other more specific 7xxxx ARS entires, and both routes use the same trunk group with the same settings in the routes.

Can anyone confirm this as I would like to clean the dozens of duplicates (as I see it) out of my ARS (I would be removing the 798xxxx entry)

Dialed String Min Max Route Type

798xxxx 7 7 4 hnpa
79 7 7 8 hnpa

the 798XXXX entry is using a differnt route pattern than the 79 entry. if you remove it, those calls will route out differently than they are now.....assuming route pattern 4 and 8 are differnt.

thanks,tim

I'd replace both entries with 79xxxxx and send them out on route 4.

If you have multiple locations remember the location specific ARS table will look at the master table (the one we're talking about here) if there isn't a location specific entry in each locations table.

Thank you both for the tips. Clarifications and questions:

1. @ tweege: I know that the entries have different routes. Looking at the routes they are EXACTLY the same, so my intention is to sub 4 for any ARS entry that uses 8, then delete 8 and to remove redundant ARS entires.

2. @ inerguard: What purpose does the xxxxx serve? The min and max field define the number length, why cant the dialed string just be 79?

3. @ inerguard: Not sure what your talking about with the locations (I've only been working PBX's for 2 years). If I do a "disp locations" I have only 1. If your talking about multiple sites and LSP's, All my systems are standalone 1 port network systems.

I would also like to add one other ARS question to this:

Similar to the original question I have other ARS entries that use different routes, but the route patterns have exactly the same settings. In this case the only difference is in the ARS the type field is different. Does a different type field necessitate a different route, even if the route parameters are EXACTLY the same? Again, 18,19,21 all have the exact same setting on the "disp route xx" form.

Dialed String Min Max Route Type

1613 11 11 18 fnpa
0709 11 11 19 op
01 9 23 21 iop

Hi,

the xxxx is basically a wildcard character and in theory using 79 etc on it's own should work fine just make sure you have the min and max fields set correctly. Personally I never ever used the xxx wildcard characters until I had to open an office in Shanghai and then the routing wouldn't work until I put the wildcards in place. This was using CM5, but I've never had any issue with CM4 so I'd try it without the xxx's and see if the calls route.

As you have stand-a-lone sites, just ignore any location information I mentioned. You'll just use the master ARS table as standard for each of your sites.

I can't help on the different types, I use "pubu" for all my ARS entries. If 18,19,21 etc. all have the exact same route entries then you only need one and can remove the others. Just make sure they are exactly the same. Post a copy of each if you want us to double check them.
