I just performed a clean re-install of Windows XP onto a new hard drive when my RAID array started causing lock-ups on boot up. I left the RAID array connected and was happy to see that after booting into the new installation, many of my files could still be accessed.

The problem is that I had previously selected "keep files private" for some of my folders. Since I am logging in via a new install, the OS is not giving me access to those folders.

Does anyone know how to get access to those files? I know the password and the user name that created the folders, I just can't log in via the old install.

Thanks for your help.

I'm learning now that I should have made a backup of my "personal encryption certificate". You can keep this backup on a floppy, and use it to recover encrypted files if your certificate becomes corrupt -- now I know.
