In desperate need of some help. Started a thread previously about the graphical pauses after installation of Windows XP on my PIII 550 xeon with 256 MB and a RIVA TNT2 Pro card. Now just want to do a clean install of windows 2000. Just cannot do it! Have been into the setup BIOS and changed my computer to boot from CDROM,A,C but then on reboot my computet asks me to 'Press a key to boot from CDROM...' but despite pressing a key and having the windows 2000 Pro installation disc in the CDROM, my computer just ignores me and boots back into XP!!! Please help if possible! How do I do a clean install of 2000 Pro on a machine that already has XP Pro installed? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys. If you don't mind loosing all your data that's currently on the hard drive you could.

1. Toss in the XP cd and boot from that.
2. Delete your partitions.
3. Exit/Quit setup.
4. Toss in the 2000 cd and boot from that.
5. Create your new partitions.
6. Install W2K on the C drive/partition.

Hi Guys. Thanks for all the help. It is now Tuesday and I am back on line! Finally took the computer before the weekend to the local computer store and explained the problem. They fixed it for £20 - but it took the guy 2 hours! There was fortunatley no hardware problem. Win2k has now been installed again and all the graphics (including the serenescreen screen saver and more importantly MAME) are as smooth as can be. He did it by using a win98 floppy boot disc, deleted partitions manually then used the win2k floppy boot discs to start a win2k installation. Ah, the joy of knowledge. I suspect Mithrilhall's last post would have worked too but I was unfortunately off line by the time it was posted. Anyway just thought you might like a happy ending! Thanks for all the help guys - especially mithrilhall and wolluf. Best wishes, mark. mail@histopath.co.uk ww.histopath.co.uk

Told you so! Glad it's ok now. There does seem to be some major grief with nvidia and xp. Peter Meachem

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the message. It wasn't actually a driver issue though. The computer guy tested my card and drivers on a slightly faster processor and it was fine. He tested the CPU usage with serenescreen running on my system and it was intermittently excessive under xp (hence the intermittent glitches). I guess it may be time for a new computer! Regards, Mark.
