I have a customer who has an older 820 system. They found some phones on their own, the Merlin 10 button phones. They were the odd ones that varied with the message light in the lower left hand, without the box around it, it was just printed on the phone. I think these phones may not have been designed for this system, but I'm not sure.

Heres the problem: When they try to make intercom calls between phones, normally the phone will give a "beep" then you are able to talk over the speaker. When they try to call one of these new phones they found, it won't beep, all that happens is the speaker light flashes.

Why would this be?
Would appreciate any help! Thanks, John

Does it work or Fail when plugged DIRECTLY into the Main Control unit?

If it works, you don't have all 4 pair going to the location.

If it fails, look at the number on the bottom of the phone.

It may be an "S" series rather than an "H" series.

H is for Merlin, S is not.

If the item number on the bottom of the phone is 7303S then you have hybrid phones that were originally designed for System 25/75. These phones will work on a Merlin system, but they will not voice announce as they do not have the circuitry for a second voice path. You could turn off the voice announce feature to these phones and they will then ring on an intercom call. The correct item number is 7303H which does have the voice announce feature.

how would you turn off the voice announce feature to make the phones just ring on an intercom call with a 820?

Thanks,
John

how would you turn off the voice announce feature on these to ring on an intercom call?

Thanks!,
John

On the Classic 820 system, to turn off Voice Announce:

[ul]
[li] Slide the T/P switch to "P"[/li]
[li] Press the Intercom button; the green light should turn off. [/li]
[li] Slide the T/P switch back to the middle position. [/li]
[/ul]
