I'm a hold-over from Lotus 3.1 so I have a Lotus 1-2-3 97 application I developed using the Classic Menu commands. Suddenly, it seems, the Classic Menu is truncated in the 97 version, and I can find no way to enlarge the window or to scroll horizontally to see the complete text. I tried adjusting the font size on the machine but it didn't change anything in the window.

Thanks for any help you can give.

This is a Lotus Approach forum, you could try posting in the 1-2-3 section at
It's probably a font problem; I've seen a few similar reports but no clear cut resolution. One person running W98 formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows and that fixed it. Another suggestion was reduce the number of fonts to no more than 200. In another case there was a MICR font installed and removing it fixed the problem.

Paul, thanks for the reference to the other forum. I couldn't find one specifically for 1-2-3.

You go to and register (free). Then login and you'll arrive at the home page. The site contains threaded discussions, organised in folders.

Under Discussion Areas on the left, click the Lotus 1-2-3 link. Then click the "Problems loading, running or printing" link and from that page click the Add Topic button at the bottom to start a new thread.

It turns out that it was not the number of fonts, but one font in particular. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

The font is called alfredo.ttf (Alfredo's Dance). It came with a program called Incredimail which allows for building fancy emails. I haven't actually used the program. Since I've seen fonts mess up programs before, and you mentioned the fonts directory, and reducing the number of fonts to 119 didn't work, I just started going through the Fonts directory to see which were the lastest ones added, and voila'! Do you have any idea why a font would mess up in the program even though I never, ever selected that font?

Thanks for the info, I'm sure that will help others too. I don't know why 1-2-3 is sensitive to some fonts. There have been various issues with 1-2-3 and fonts over the years but no doubt some of these have been fixed in the later releases.

If I remember correctly 1-2-3 97 is prone to hang when there are more than 200 or so fonts installed.
