Quick question..

When I ping the loopback address of:
A) Cisco Device (icmp traffic actually sent on wire)
B) PC (No traffic on wire)
What layers of the OSI model are being tested?

Here is the reason that I ask...

I have heard 1-3, 3-4, 1-7 etc.

I believe that the same layers are being tested regardless of whether or not the traffic crosses the wire but looking for someone to enlighten.. LoL Thanks

UT OH...... Now you have gone and done it - better hope the Cisco Learning Network does not see that you POSTED your exam scores - now everyone that reads this will know how to pass all those exams because they KNOW what score you got :)

and Billy was the start of all this trouble - as usual, I think we need to call the SP and have him thrown in the brig :)

Bill,

NEVER EVER got a neatness for anything - I had the WORST handwriting - even to this day, and now that I type EVERYTHING - my handwriting is worse then a doctor :)

Let's just hope that this post doesn't get nuked...Halloween...whoops...

Burt

Definitely appreciate the information gentlemen! Now I have another tidbit of useless information to add to the stack! LoL But seriously thanks!

Burt, I seriously doubt this will get nuked as it does provide clarity and insight to a topic that is obviously relevant to this particular forum!

Gene,

My handwriting wasn't very good. It was just better than the rest of the class that day. That and the teacher didn't know me very well. lol

My teachers certainly knew me very well, sometimes in VERY good ways...lol

Did you guys see that Gene has posted a QUESTION??? The world is officially ending...Nostradamus was wrong...it won't happen in 2012...

Burt

Saw that. Its terrifying. Cash in your 401K and head for the tropics. Nevada is going to be the new Pacific coast.

Also saw that Billy is baiting another thread ("Feel free to ask..." lol).

Burt,

My posts might take a little longer to reach 260 feet to the surface from the 3rd sub level down under 20 feet of lead and 240 feet of concrete and dirt :) ...........

But in all reality, I normally just search for my answers or wait for Billy to ask :)

But in this case I just want to make sure that I understand some of these things a little better and get a few of the "why" I want to do it that way vs this way :)

I get these wild hairs of stuff i want to study ..... I also on vacation for a week so I got time to play - my sister and her kids are in town from Michigan (where it is cold) to 80 degree Florida so I figured I would spend a few days with them!!!

I also got crazy on Thursday at work and started to clean and arrange my office - laid the ground work for a 3rd monitor on my desk computer and 8 in my office total on 4 different computers. I think I am really down in a silo - I just watch that the students don't get the "launch codes" :)

...from Michigan (where it is cold)..."
ABill---tell him what cold REALLY feels like...not the heat wave we've been having for the past week or two...lol

Brut

Brut,

I have on my Dell 280 (borrowed from work to play with/learn Vista) the Vista desktop (next to me, I am on a Dell XPS running XP) 3 temps - at 10:36PM Tampa 64, Ann Arbor, Mi. 28 and St. Louis, Mo 28 - I added the Mo just for you and Bill :)

That is cold no matter Mi or Mo :)

Hate to tell ya, 28 is still part of the heat wave. Few weeks back we hit about -30 in Iowa.

I don't know -30. That's not a temperature, its a measurement of ability of humans to survive in harsh environments. Its also why I prefer the more moderate climes 400 miles to the south.

Burt does live farther north than I do by maybe 8 miles or so.

Wow! And this is on the weekend, even. Burt aka Buirt aka Brut aka what's next? I'm soooooo confused!!!!! All those personalities in one moniker! Anyway, it's wonderful you did well on all those other tests, but the point I was trying to make is I've been teaching the material for years based on the information I've given. My score was to indicate that when I answer questions based on the information I teach, I've done well (actually my WAG factor may have been high that day, too?) Regardless of where you may think or argue the ping loopback sits, you've got to know the "Cisco way". Their ball, their bat, their rules. Each test has its own "quirks" based on how Cisco views the course material. I'm not trying to get into the ego contest. I'll readily admit I am probably one of the biggest idiots in networking because of the many mistakes I've made over the years to gain the coveted "experience". To me "experience" means "screw-ups that I've recovered from without being career limited". Many times have I said "Oops!" or other more colorful phrases to indicate I wish I hadn't pressed "Enter"!

Now, on to Halloween costumes or discussion of Friday part ?? to get this thread removed. Maybe temps and weather will do it? How about Easter celebrations? I like bunnies ;-).

Bufford B. Butr Brut,

My brother lives a little north of Anchorage outside of most of the Cook Inlet moderation. They had a few weeks of highs of -20F. That's their HIGH temp. They mostly stay inside during that time. They have plenty of food stored. They particularly like to feast on spotted owl and bald eagle.

We had almost two weeks in St. Louis when the temp did not get above 0F with two feet of snow on the ground. IIRC, it was in 1982 and was not pleasant.

All kidding aside....

I hope this thread survives (Cluester, I thought you were a moderator!). There is some good analysis and some good comments.

[the other] Bill

Cluebird,

All kidding aside - you are sooooooooo right - it is Cisco's way or the highway when you are taking an exam - no one to argue with or question.

That is a very good point for a Cisco cert forum and anyone who might be watching. In the network world you will find MANY different ways to do things or how things are explained.

HOWEVER, when taking a CISCO exam - like Cluebird said - "Their ball, their bat, their rules." - I will add their field and their umpires as well as John Chambers is the comish :) You BETTER learn it their way for the Cisco exam.

We have had these discussions in class sooooooo many times - and I always end it with that Cisco ALWAYS has the final say :) Get used to it :)
