Hi,

I am trying to add a CLAN board on a Definity G3r (release 10).

I plugged the board in the Definity. The circuit-packs automatically updated.

I plugged an RJ45 cable between the board and my network switch then changed the ip-interfaces, node-names ip and added an ethernet datamodule.
I can't ping it, cannot ping any IP address with it, and furthermore, I don't think there is actually any network activity : the network switches LEDs stay off.

I then tried to :
- switch the CLAN board with another one which was already in use : it shows there is no problem with the board itself, as the new CLAN works on the other slot.
- use another network cable : still no activiy
- plug the network cable on another place on the network switch that I know works : still no activity
Also, pluging some other equipment on the slot of the switch I initially used for the CLAN board gives network to the equipment
So it's not a problem with my network switch.
- tried to put the board on another free slot of a carrier of the Definity and configured everything again (ip-interface, datamodule, etc ...) : still no activity

In addition to that, I did the exact same to add a CLAN board on a S8700 and had no problem at all.

The only thing I see left is that there is something I need to do physically on the Definity to get my CLAN board to work. Though, I cannot find it anywhere on Avaya documentation.

Is there anything else I need to know about connectivity on the G3r to add a CLAN board ? Or did I forget anything else ?

Thank you very much for your help

N.

Is your data switch setup for auto-negotiate? I would lock down the CLAN (change-ethernet-options) and make sure the data switch port is also. I would also try another data port.

Make sure that you're not using the "crossover dongle" that they send with the boards. You should plug your RJ45 directly into the black backplane connector. (it plugs in at an angle.)

Then I would check the speed and duplex settings to make sure that you have them set the same as your data switch.

Yes, the ethernet port is enabled.

And there is no problem coming from the data switch : I tried other data ports that I know where working and see still no activity there. That's why I am so sure it doesn't come from my network equipment but from the Definity itself.

As for the RJ45, I indeed plugged it directly into the black backplane connector.

Thank you though for your answers already, I go back to my investigations!

Is the Definity seeing the MAC address of the board? Status the relevant link, the line that says "Physical Address:" is the MAC address. It's always worthwhile doing a busy board XXYY, reset board XXYY and release board XXYY. Cures many Definity ailments!

It looks ok, doesn't it ?

I've just tried to busy/reset/release the board, and still no result.

I feel quite lost, I don't have any more ideas at this point...

Then I would check the speed and duplex settings to make sure that you have them set the same as your data switch.

That was it !! All the other data ports I have tried had the same configuration as the initial one (and different from the C-LAN of course ...)

Thanks again, all of you!
