Hi All
I am trying to get a Si Ver 9 connected to a network, trouble is they are giving me an IP address of 192.168.1.100 and a subnet of 255.255.0.0, the avaya isnt letting me add this subnet as I think it should be a class B address, the techie network guys are sayng cant we do somthing that can work around, really not sure,, any ideas guys.
TIA

Where are you attempting to change the subnet? In the IP-interfaces form. If so make sure that you set "enable ether port" to n and then save. Then go back into the screen and change the subnet and re-enable the ether port and save.

I just tested on a 9.5 and was able to set it to a 16 bit mask....no problems.

Hi
Tried that , as soon as i try and enable the port it says
change ip-interfaces Page 1 of 6

Network class of the administered Node Name requires this value to be 255
This is when i set the IP address to 192.168.1.100, if i set it to 172.168.1.100 it enables the port no problem.
PS I have S/W level R009i.05.1.122.4

The system, AFAIK, will not allow you to violate (for lack of a better word) RFC 950 which restricts which IP subnets are which classes and how you can subnet them. You can decrease the size of your IP subnets, eg. use Class B addresses with a Class C subnet Mask, but you cannot go the other way unless the system allows for classless IP addressing.

I'm afraid that you'll have to move to one of the other private IP address spaces that will allow for that subnet mask (unless someone knows of a workaround):

10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255 Class A
172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255 Class B

Thank you, i thought the old lady wouldnt let me do it
Cheers
