CKE5 Startup Problem 9

I run several Magix systems and 1 Legend.

The Legend had a CKE5 Card, so I decided to upgrade it to magix with my upgrade flash. I have used this flash before and since. It has worked every time (and since then) except this one.

The difference this time is that instead of inserting the flash when the system was running, I powered up the system with the upgrade flash already in the slot.

...The LED on the cke5 read "L"... and I quickly powered it off.

When I powered up again (without the flash), the LED read "F".

I inserted the flash and powered up again. The led read "L"... then it changed to "F".

Now, when I power up, it just reads "F".

What is going on here?

Have I blown the card?

F is for frigid start. Did you let it start up or did you turn it off as soon as you saw the F

The "L" means that the flash upgrade card you have is a "forced" upgrade card - meaning as soon as it is installed and the unit is powered up - it will force an upgrade of the processor. This card should not be installed when the processor is powered up - although I doubt that you did any damage.

This card is used to "revive" processors that have corrupt firmware on them - and have stopped working.

After the processor is upgraded with either a "forced" or normal upgrade card - it will do a Full Erase restart - hence you will see the "F" on the display - so that is quite normal. Shut the system down and remove the forced upgrade card and then reboot the processor - you should be back to seeing the normal small "c" for cold start.

Thanks so much you all.

I thought that I had made a mistake in the programming of the flash card. It says 2MB on the card, but my PC read it as 4MB.

...anyway...

All I was missing was PATIENCE!!!!!

Thanks a lot. Is there a manual for those LED codes on the processor?

There aren't many codes that I know of:
L = loading "forced" firmware (upgrade)
U = normal (manual) upgrade in process
F = Full Erase (frigid) restart - which wipes all programming
c = Cold start with all programming retained.

I have not seen any others - but there may be some.

OK, Now you are going to hear from the TIER-3 Engineer:

Tom said:

However the real meaning is:

L = LOW LEVEL FORMAT
U = normal (manual) upgrade in process
F = FRIGID START - which wipes all programming
c = Cold start with all programming retained.

So, I hope that clears it up for everyone.

And, by the way, did you change all of your clients clocks in their Telephone systems and their Voice Mails?

Wow. This forum is better than any Avaya help desk.

Thanks for the information.

And for some do-it-yourself help, you can download all the documentation from Avaya's website: support.avaya.com

If you get confused, post your questions on this forum.

HAPPY READING!

Yes... but oddly enough, I cannot always perform the correct search if the text string is inside the pdf on the Avaya sight.

The Avaya people gave me the document number of the error codes in the error log today.

...but the search would not bring it up.

So... thanks again.
