I am having issues with users that use Citrix that do not log out but rather they disconnect, does any one have any tips on how to manage those users? Or maybe communicate to them or educate them in using Citrix?
We set the "End a disconnected session" to 1 minute. Then after a minute or so the disconnnected session is killed off. However, we don't have anyone within our production environment that needs to use the disconnect option. On the test environment we allow them.
We have our servers reboot every night, and this effectively logs everyone who has left their session in a disconnected state out, so its not been too much of an issue here.
In the past, we've set disconnection timeouts within the Terminal Services configuration for individual servers so that any session which is disconnected for 4 hours or more is then logged off.
If you've got remote users or slow network links then be careful setting the disconnection timeout too low, as you can get users who are temporarily disconnected and then need to get back to their session. We set a 2 hour limit on idle sessions, which then go to disconnected state, and we then have a further 4 hours disconnected before they are logged out. Not had any complaints as yet
