I run a 6 server farm, Win2K and XPe. We have an application that uses a Systems DSN ODBC connection to a SQL 7 DB. My problem is...my users are getting a ODBC communication link failure error, then freezing up in the system. We have looked into everything, ruling out Metaframe 1.8 vrs XPe, SQL clusters vrs stand alone SQL servers, Switches, Firewall..you name it ..its been tested. It doesnt matter the location of the users..it happens to LAN, WAN, and remote users. We are convinced its the software, but getting the programmers to admit its software is like pulling teeth.

Would appreciate some feedback on if anyone else has the same problems with ODBC connections thru Citrix, or if any one knows some magic to keep my users connected longer.
Big thanks in advance.

We haven't experienced too many problems with System DSNs on our environment. We have a couple applications that use several DSNs to connect to files.

One thing we did have to do is setup the System DSN while the server was in Install mode.

Before trying that, we didn't have much luck at all.

If you have XPe installed, are you running RM?

If so, is there anything in the server log which gives any clues? The Event log?

How often does this happen?

Try running a packet sniffer between the MF server and the SQL server.

It's certainly a communication issue, and it's difficult to see how it could be Metaframe related, since the IMA service just uses DNS to resolve host names and everything else happens over IP.

I hope this helps
