Hello folks,

I am on Windows XP Pro and i have Cisco VPN installed. I am accessing my company SAP server thru this CISCO VPN client.

I need to access another SAP server which uses Positive Networks VPN. when i installed Positive Networks VPN its is asking to uninstall Cisco. Does this behaviour mean that one OS cannot have more than one VPN? If this is true what are my options to have Positive Networks installed?

Please advise.

Thanks
Kumar

You don't need Cisco VPN Client to access a Cisco VPN---the built-in VPN client in Windows XP works fine. The Positive Networks VPN software sounds like it's proprietary, and it does not play well with others.

Hey there -

I have a dozen or so years with various RAS/Remote Access implementations (Shiva LAN Rover and Perle, shell accounts, PPTP/L2TP, and proprietary VPNs). In general, running concurrent VPN software is a lot like running multiple AntiVirus products or security suites - they are frequently in competition for the same functions or service.

Interesting, though, that you mentioned Positive Networks' solution. I have several clients on their service and from what they've reported, their SSL product is ActiveX based and hasn't presented any conflicts. Their software client is SSL-like, and again, from what my clients have reported, is pretty good at finding conflicting installations and either aborting its own install or prompting for the possible conflict.

Again to that SSL-like VPN client of Positive Networks, two of my clients have SonicWALL Global and several have (various) Cisco VPN clients installed concurrently. It's only been a few that turned out to be mutually exclusive - primarily Nortel's or those that use Nortel's underpinnings.

Just the same, I'd say contact the vendor directly. They ought to be the experts in their own environment.

Good luck, and please post a reply about how this gets resolved. I'm keen to hear.

R.
