I have a Windows 2000 server at home with 4 clients connected to it all using Windows 2000 Professional. I tried to install Cisco VPN client to one of the client computers so I can remote connect to my work. I have NAT configured on the server, after I installed VPN, the client lost connection with the server. I Could not connect to the internet, email, network drives, etc. After I uninstalled VPN and rejoined the domain I was able to get full network connection. I would really like to get VPN working, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think what you're seeing is normal.
It also happens to me when I connect from home to work (and it sounds like you have a similar setup to me).
It's a security issue. When I'm on VPN my computer becomes part of the work network (so it excludes me from mine - even my shared printer). As soon as I disconnect VPN - everything is restored.
It's a real pain - I know - But I don't know any way round it.

You will find its becasue your cisco firewall/router is slighly misconfigured at work.
What is happening is:

When you run your VPN client and a secure network link is created across the internet to your LAn at work-- Your commputer for all intents and purposes beleives it is part of the LAN-- so any communication that you might use-like using internet explorer will think its on the LAN at work.

What you need to do is get your IT guy to add the following command:

vpngroup (VPN TUNNEL NAME) split-tunnel VPNSplitTunnel

this is direct from My companies PIX so its best if you get your IT guy to lookitup on Ciscos website for anyother rammifications.

MCSE NT&2K,CCNA/CCDA,CNA,ASE,NSP

If your going to post-- say somthing instead of Googling a URL link

I understand that, but what is happening to me is that I can't even connect to my work because my external connection is running through my server and I cannot reach it. I actually have to UNINSTALL vpn and REJOIN my home network just to be able to access any resources. Caould it have anything to do with VPN disabling IPSEC?? I am using an ethernet DSL modem. I keep thinking it is a problem with my configuration at home. I have never run into this until I set up the Windows 2000 Server. Thanks for the advice, keep it coming....:):)
