Is there any way to upgrade the bootflash on a uBR 7200 chassis? I have a new IOS image that requires a bootrom upgrade. The new bootrom is almost 5MB and the current bootflash is only 3.5MB in size. Is bootflash located on the I/O card? We tried installing the new bootrom on a flash card but the IOS would not allow booting the bootrom from a flash card, it must boot from bootflash.

Hello there, there is a way to tell the router to look for the bootflash in normal flash. I will do some research and let you know.

Thanks tecnikall, let me know if you find something.

Hello there, for this issue there is a Cisco Field Notice. You will need a CCO account to have access to the information.

Just to let you know that you will be able to use 12.0S bootimage which will support higher main IOS images thus eliminating the need to upgrade the bootimage to the latest and will fit your existing bootflash.

Another way to address this issue is to have an I/O 2FE or i/O GE which both come with a 8MB bootflash onboard. Cheers and good luck!!!
