Hi,

I have a project in which I need to connect four networks (preferably using a Cisco product to stay with company standards). I've tried to find a router that offers the ports and performance to do this but I'm having trouble. Here's what I've looked at:

2621XM: there is a 4-port module but it is only 10-base-t.

3700 Series: cost is a little prohibitive at this level and I'm still not sure I can get what I need.

Should I consider using 2 different routers for this project - OR - does anyone have a recommendation for a solution using a single router?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cisco 3550 12port layer3 switch. The EMI version supports all popular routing protocols including OSPF & BGP. It doesns't have enough memory to take the full Inet routes, but neither does the 2600 router you were looking at.

Thanks, Baddos. I reviewed that option with our network group and I think we are going to go for it. It will be the first time our organization has taken advantage of layer 3 switching. Thanks again for your help!

Yeap, agreed, to get a router with 4 ports of Fast Ethernet would cost you just as much if not more than the 3550 switch, with 1/100th of the performance probably of the 3550..

Good Choice.
