Hello and thank you if you can help me.

I Have a Cisco 2500 series router which i need to connect direct to a PC ethernet card, at the moment it is connected directly into a ethernet hub but when i connect to the pc there is no communication. Do i need to make up some special cable i.e roll-over cable etc.(I am using rj45 connections)

Hi there,

Just use a cross-over cable to connect, that's all.

Good luck.

If the router is connected directly to a hub, most likely it is with a cross-over cable. This same cable can not be used to connect to a computer. You need a straight-through cable.

Computers are considered Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). Modems, routers, hubs and switches are Data Comm Equipment (DCE). Connection of similar types requires a cross-over, i.e. DCE to DCE is cross-over. Computer to computer (DTE to DTE) requires cross-over. Computer to router (DTE to DCE) requires straight-through.
