Dear All,

I am planning to get a

Cisco PIX Firewall 501 - 10User/3DES/AES Bundle(Chassis,SW,10User/DES/licenses,4port 10/100 switch)

for my small office network that currently have a 3Com Switch connecting a server and 5 workstation. The server is running Windows Small Business Server 2000.

I am really new to hardware firewall, as I am just using the software firewall at the moment(ISA server). So what I really want to ask, is whether The Cisco PIX has a (easy)wizard to setup in my office. I need an easy configuration wizard at the moment while I get some books to read and do advance configuration later on.

Thanks

Joseph Lee

Yep... It has a web GUI called PDM (PIX Device Manager). You'll need to assign an IP address to the PIX and set the password, but after that you can finish the config with a web browser.

Thank baddos for the reply.

I presume that there is a user manual on PDM shipped with the firewall.

Setting up the pix via the command line is just as easy as using the PDM IMHO. We have the 506E in a very simmiliar environment as yourself and I am pretty new to Cisco stuff myself and setup ours with a basic config in a matter of minutes simpley by reading a few things on this web site.

If you are buying a new PIX it will come with CLI and PDM manuals.

I realize I'm posting this in a Cisco PIX forum, however here's my two cents....

I've got 11 years of Cisco IOS (99% routers) experiance. I've been working on PIX's for about a year now. I also have years of firewall experiance with other vendors (Checkpoint, Sonicwall, Netscreen, Nokia). If you're looking for easiest to install and use with little (really no) reading of manuals I would have to reccomend the Netscreen. While the Pix isn't "hard" to use, it's conventions can be difficult, and in my personal experiance Cisco support can leave some to be desired. Generally speaking the Netscreen's are the same price as the Cisco.

Hope this helps.
