I am testing a new Cisco pix 501. I want to NAT
from an outside address of 192.168.0.4 to an inside address
of 192.168.1.2

the cisco is using 192.168.1.1 for it's inside address to get to the website in the CISCO.

I have it attached to a 64 bit Microsoft XP with the firewall turned off./ I have set up remote desktop which uses port 3389 for communications. The Cisco has given an address to the 64 bit computer NIC interface of 192.168.1.2 I cannot get the remote desk top to connect from another XP unit on the 192.168.0.0 network. The service manual assumes you know everything about access control and setting up the NAT.

I need a step by step config setup. My TCP/IP training is Microsoft and not CISCO. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I just keep resetting back to square one. HELP

this is the old way of doing it:

static (inside,outside) 192.168.0.1 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0

conduit permit tcp host 192.168.0.1 eq 3389 any

this way has become phased out for Access-lists, which Im a bit rusty on.

Thank you. I will try to use the information but the config pages seem to have it's own mind as to subnet masks.
when I say ok I get error messages regarding improper subnet masks. I have tried every combination with no success.

try doing this :

static (inside,outside) 192.168.0.1 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.255

without the last 2 0's at the end. I believe those are implied, and you don't need them. (actually, i believe i never used them on a command line, and the command would bounce if i manually added those in).

let me know if that helps.

Thank you will try and let you know. Just got back from spring break and will get to it this week
