i'm confused by how to go about fixing the dialtone with a 7961 phone the phone is able to make calls even though there is no dialtone

What kind of system and do you have other 7961 phones working correctly?

we have a CUCM 8.0.2 and yes other 7961's are working correctly

Make sure the loads are the same between this phone and a working phone.
If all looks ok, you can try a factory reset on the phone to see if it has some corruption for some reason, that can be corrected.

Is the hook switch working - it may be broken if no dial tone; I replaced a phone due to this.
Or if the phone set is sitting too high up it may not be allowing the handset to activate the hook switch.
Are you having to press 'new call' for dial tone before dialing.

trvlr1 the loads are the same so i'll try a factory reset and slp123 the hookswitch is working but there is still no dialtone and i guess this has happened before and there is no dialtone when you press new call either but phone still works

Do you get dialtone if you wait?
Do you get both way audio when you make a call? Internal and external?
What version of call manager are you on?

whykap no i don't get dialtone if i wait and i do get audio both internal and external and i'm on version 8.0.2

Have you tried unplugging the phone and waiting a few seconds and plugging it back in? I have seen this fix a few weird issues that a reset through CM didnt clear up.

I understand that you might not have a replacement, but you need to eliminate that's a defective phone (which I think it is). Temporarily use somebody elses phone and program it to be the same as the one acting up.
Put it on the same location and test. If it works it's a bad phone and you'll need to replace it.
Did you try a factory reset as someone else suggested?

we have unplugged it and it fixed the problem before and now it's happening again so as it has been suggested i suppose they will have to buy a new phone then i have not done a factory reset but i can try that... i also noticed that the phone takes a second or to before it dials out
