I am pretty new to this so please forgive my ineptness. When I took over managing our network this switch was already configured and the last person who was in charge was long gone. We have recently gotten DSL for our Internet Service and we had to change all of our workstation and server IP addresses. I run Fluke's Network Inspector and this tells me that my switch has an incorrect IP address. From what I read in the Cisco book I should be able to A) Telnet into the switch, which does not work, B) Type in the IP address and get into the web based set up, which does not work, C) Use the console cabe, and the Hyper Terminal to access it, which I am very unsure on how to do. So to make a long post short would someone please help me out with setting up the Hyper Terminal to gain access to my switch. Thanks everyone! >:):O>

If it is an older 1900, the easiest way would be to take a laptop with a db9 to db9 connector cable to plug into the back of the laptop and into the back of the switch.

If it is a newer 1900, use the supplied Cisco cable, plug the rj45 into the back of the switch and the db9 into the back of the laptop.

Enter anything for the name
Com 1 or Com 2 (Usually Com1)whichever you are connected to
on rear of pc or laptop.
Set baud rate to 9600 and no flow control
Hit enter a few times and the management menu should come up
