Hi,

We are currently running 6.1 but are due to go to version 8 at the end of the year.

In our old Siemens telephony system we used to pull CDR into third party software and run reports. The raw CDR included the name of the phone.

In the new world of IP it appears that Call Manager does not provide a name or description field in the raw data. Therefore we require an additional source e.g. AD.

The problem is that we have many phones which are not associated to a user! e.g. Visitor desks and offices. They are therefore not in AD, the other issue is these change regularly. Sometime on a daily basis.

Any idea how we can handle the name association for these devices without doing it manually? The obvious way mentioned above is that CUCM dumps out description or name along with the extension number.

Any have experience in this area? or know a solution? Any help will be most appreciated.

Indeed there are no fields containing any names.

You could use the "origDeviceName" which contains the mac address of the device (like SEP001A2FCB786F).
Then in your cdr collection program bind names to the mac addresses.

Good luck

In the design of CUCM Cisco appears to have overlooked the fact that occasionally some of the "old legacy" features are simply de rigueur. When these "tools" are stripped from you your end user or your management may logically perceive you to be incompetent in your job without realizing that it's not your fault.

I feel your pain. We're coming off 25 years of "legacy" hardware and are really struggling.

The CDR's do not contain the description of the end point (Handset) or UDP, however this information can be obtained via an AXL query.

AXL/Soap info
We have integrated AXL into our own products, TIM Plus and Enterprise. If you would like to see a video of what is possible via AXL then go to www.tri-line.com/cisco.

Interesting, so your tool actaully pulls over all the name information on the device side?

The option we have been provided by a vendor is to add user accounts for all unassigned extensions. Apparently the name information can then be imported into CUCM.

So is it a case of combining the AXL query with the CDR to gain the infromation required?

How new is the company you mention? At a quick glance there does not seem to be pricing integrated?

When the call logger is first installed, you can do a directory sync with Cisco AXL. This picks up all the configured users and devices with any associated info contained therein. We automatically pick up all the CDR's and log to each associated user or device.

For on-going updates you can schedule an auto-sync. This can be pre-scheduled for user-defined periods e.g. every minute, hour, day, week etc. The video link shows how this is done. (BTW this video was taken from our in-house Cisco)

To answer your other queries, the company is over 11 years old Pricing for the product starts at UK£1250 for up to 100 users. The pricing is all inclusive so no hidden extra charges for AXL integration, display boards, interactive graphs etc.

You can download a free trial if you'd like to test with your own live data. We all know the proof of the pudding is in the eating :) BTW The product is fully Cisco IVT tested!

Thanks for the response, as previously mentioned we are aware you can pull the user account info (end users in call manager) On the device and/or line side, are you saying you can also pull the description/alerting name etc?

Does your product do this or does it only pull name information from the user accounts?

If this is the case it appears you could solve the issue i have raised.

We do indeed learn the device details such as the MAC address and Description / Alerting Name from UCM.

See screen shots attached showing a new user created called Tektips User, extension 6000 with a MAC address of SEPDEADBEEF1234.
