Hello everyone, my first post here.

I have a problem with a switch that was given to me. It is a Cisco C2900XL, powers ip, but all link lights are amber, System and RPS are amber, and STAT, UTL, FDUP, and 100 are green. It turns on like that and remains like that.

Any suggestions will help.

Thanks,

Mike

OK,
The first response wasn't helpful...

Have you logged into the switch via the console port to see what the errors are?

Can you plug into teh consol eport and watch the switch boot? How far does it get?

ComputerKid1988,

It does not look good - here is what I found at Cisco.com -

System LED

The system LED shows whether the system is receiving power and functioning properly. lists the LED colors and their meanings.

Amber - System is receiving power but is not functioning properly.

RPS LED

The redundant power system (RPS) LED shows the RPS status. lists the LED colors and their meanings.

Amber - RPS is connected but not functioning properly. One of the power supplies in the RPS could be powered down or a fan on the RPS could have failed.

Port Mode and Port Status LEDs

Use the Mode button to change the meanings of the LEDs above each port. There are four possible modes:

STAT (port status)

Solid amber - Port is not forwarding. Port was disabled by management or an address violation or blocked by Spanning-Tree Protocol (STP).

Note After a port is reconfigured, the port status LED can remain amber for up to 30 seconds as STP checks the switch for possible loops.

Hope this helps!

I have already been to that page, but it doesn't help. the LEDs start like I stated earlier from start up, and don't change.

ComputerKid1988,

As it says for the System LED - Amber - System is receiving power but is not functioning properly. I would say that is NOT a good thing!!!

You said - "Unfortunately I cannot get in to the console." are you saying that nothing is comming up when you console in? I have a Cisco 2924-XL that is acting a little funky, I have amber lights all the time over certian ports but I can console in and still try different things with it and review different commands!

Have you opened the case? Anything look fried? Are the fans running?

You said it was given to you, can you ask the person if this is why they gave it away?

At least you don't have any $$$ in it :)

Unless you can get into the console there is not definitive answer . Sounds like its failed POST , if so get rid of it . Its not supported by cisco anymore.

Actually, is it set on the STAT?
You say they are all green---unplug it,plug it back in, and see if you can't press that STAT/UTIL/FRUP/100 button to get it to cycle. If not, that thing is dead.
The RPS is for a remote power supply---is one hooked up?
Sounds like a dead switch to me...if all lights are lit and stay lit, it's fried for sure.
