I need to upgrade our inter-office D-Link Wireless AP to a compatible Cisco AP for our SpectraLink phones. the problem is I'm limited to specific models in order to recieved technical support from SpectraLink.

My question is... do I need to purchase a Cisco compatible router with the Cisco Aironet AP or can I plug the Cisco Aironet AP into my switch?

help would be appriciated.

thanks

From reading their FAQ on Aironets ]
The AP Ethernet port supports either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps over an RJ-45 connector, in either half or full duplex. Hard set the speed and duplex to the same settings as your switch or hub.

You should be able to connect it straight to a Ethernet switch. Even running it as a layer 3 device, you should not need a Cisco-specific router on the other end. Don't know for certain though.

You will most likely need a router. I tried using the same AP without a router and it wouldnt work until I hooked up a linksys router between it and my cable modem. I just set up the router with default settings and it worked perfectly...Now I'm having a problem using the router w/o the AP....but thats a story for another thread....

i figured I'd need some sort of router. I wanted to find out, while I'm waiting for my cisco rep to contact me.
