Hi there:

I have a cisco 837 onto which I'm trying to reclaim some flash space.

Code:
otto#sho flash:

System flash directory:
File Length Name/status
  1 9092996 c837-k9o3sy6-mz.123-11.T10.bin
[9093060 bytes used, 3227704 available, 12320764 total]
12288K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

otto#sho webflash:

Web flash directory:
No files in Web flash
[0 bytes used, 1835004 available, 1835004 total]
2048K bytes of processor board Web flash (Read/Write)

Is there any way I can get rid of the webflash: and combine it with the flash: partition? I'm tyring to install SDM on it and I don't have enough flash space.

Hi
The the 837 with 12MB of flash even if you could merge it with the web flash ,will never hold the full SDM installation.Your best option is to install a part on flash and other part on the computer.
regards

Or buy a flash/ram upgrade. I was on Ebay and it seems fairly cheap to get load up the 837 to the full 80/24 that it can handle.

Thanks for your reply, looks like I won't be able to install it as-is.

Hello
Why can't you run SDM of the computer?
Regards

Does it run off Linux or MacOS? The docs seem to indicate otherwise.

No SDM support for linux as yet!
Regards

You think about WineTools in Linux, or VMWare? Actually, that's an interesting project...what distro do you use? I will try it on Knoppix tomorrow.

I'm using ubuntu. But in all honesty, I'd rather pay up 50$ to upgrade the router flash, be able to use the latest IOS, and install the tools on there instead of using up 20 gigs of my hard disk to install vmware+windows+whatever else is required only to run SDM? Especially since it's only for a research project.

True---don't know if Wine runs SDM...I mean, it's only a browser app, and I know Mozilla runs it fine. Also, does Ubuntu come with Wine installed?

No wine by default I think (I might be wrong on this) but it can easily be added I'm sure. It's all moot now as I've ordered flash to max out the 837.

One odd thing I noticed while looking to upgrade ram as well is that there is a 16 meg stick of RAM installed (that's what the label says anyway). Now from cisco's documentation, the 837 is supposed to have 64 megs RAM onboard, and have a maximum of 80 megs of ram (by using a 16 meg stick). Oddly:

Code:
otto#sho hardware
...
...
Cisco C837 (MPC857DSL) processor (revision 0x500) with 46695K/2457K bytes of me.

Would that indicate that I only have 32 megs onboard (+the 16MB stick?)

Hello
That's correct! You have one of the older releases of the 837.You are max out as far as dram is concern.
Regards

That sucks... Is it just the dram chip that is different, or are the boards physically different?

I might be convinced to take the soldering iron to it and replace the dram chip(s). (I did that with an old palm pilot).

Hello
The board are more or less the same, the revision number changes.I don't think you will be able to change the chip.Just upgrade the flash!
