Cisco 761M brings up ISDN connection for no reason?

I have just bought a Cisco 761M which works fine except that it keeps connecting to my ISP without me requesting it to do so! It used to do this every 2 or 3 minutes but I tinkered with turning IP RIP UPDATE OFF which seemed to have cured the problem... BUT it's started doing it all over again and (famous last words) I haven't changed anything ;-) My questions are: 1) how do I stop this, and 2) if it's not the 761M that is the culprit how do I find out what is?

TIA

When the router receives activity from the LAN it will activate the ISP connection . There are several timeout parameters you can modify . Type ( UPL ) from the prompt.
This will give you a complete config of the router and timeouts . You can also type ( sh isdn 1 and or sh isdn 2 ) this will show you the status of each line . Good Luck !!! [sig][/sig]

Do you have any NT servers or workstations attached to the network that the router is attached to.
NT boxes are realy noisy! However, there is some good documentation of using access lists to make sure that the unwanted traffic is not intressing and thus does not bring up the link!

Jeter and Imprezza,

thank you both for making suggestions! I have been away for a week. When I got back the phone lines were down (again) and I only got my ISDN (Numeris) connection back about 10 minutes ago...

Jeter: that UPL list is loooong isn't it. I'm working through it slowly.

Imprezza: I'll see if I can find the documentation you talk about. I have a feeling that it is my Windows 2000 boxes that are causing the pain.

Thanks to both of you. I will keep you informed of any positive results! :)

I don't know if this will help you. But anyway.
I used to own a Cisco 761M but I sold it and bought a
D-link 106. I needed the phonelines which the 761M don't have. But I recognize the problem you have. I didn't do anything about it with the 761M. And when I bought the D-link I thought the problem would go away. (Born trobleshooter!) But the problem was still there so I looked at the D-lin hompage and found this URL:

It workedfor me with D-link when I used Win95. When I changed to win98 and later also Win Me, the change was already done so I don't know if you have to change these as well.

JP,

thank you for your suggestion. I'm in a different country this week so I won't be able to try it immediately.

In fact, I reloaded two of the machines on my net a week ago and the problem seems to have gone away...!

I have a feeling it will appear again though ;-(

Thanks again,

Jay
