I have a Cisco 6006 that I can't telnet or ping to it. Yet the switch is up and running. I have three other switches running off it. I can ping the other switches. If I telnet into one of them and telnet from it into the 6006, i get "Password required, but none set". I can ping to it also.

Any ideas?

Telnet access has not been setup.

You have to console into it and make changes.

Ok, what about the no pinging?

I looked at the switch and telnet is enable.

Console in, and to set passwords on vty lines, assuming it is IOS and not CatOS...
switch>en
switch#conf t
switch(config)#line vty 5 15
switch(config-line)#password blabla
switch(config-line)#login
switch(config-line)#exit
switch(config)#enable password blabla
switch(config)#end
switch#wr
Is there an IP address set on the management VLAN, and is there a route to it?

Burt
