Hey guys, I get this when trying to enable trunking on a Cisco 5000 supervisor 1 engine, can I not do this on a supervisor engine?

dnswcr5 (enable) set trunk 1/1 on 1-1005 dot1q
Adding vlans 1-1005 to allowed list.
Please use the 'clear trunk' command to remove vlans from allowed list.
Port(s) 1/1 allowed vlans modified to 1-1005.
Failed to set port 1/1 to trunk mode on.
Failed to set port 1/1 trunk type to dot1q.
Feature not supported on Module 1.

I presume I am running dot1q on the 2950's (one of my 2950's is the vtp server)

Hi,

It looks like you have an old Supervisor. SUPII will only do ISL trunking & 2950s will only do dot1q.(Thanks Cisco) Only some of the later supervisors and line cards support dot1q.

For example a X-5201 card will only do ISL
But a X-5201R will do ISL and dot1q.

To check what the modules on a CAT5000 can do. Use the "show port capabilities" command.

Cheers

Mark
