We currently have Bay 450 switches that communicate at 100MB fiber back to our core Accelar 1200. We are moving to a Cisco 4506 that is capable of communicating at 1GB fiber. During the upgrade process we would like to install the 4506 core switch first and then move to the field switch(Cisco 2960s). Is it possible for the Bay 450 switches to communnicate with the Cisco 4506 even though the Bay switches operate at 100MB and the 4506 is at 1GB??? Will the Bay switches just continue to operate a 100MB on the 4506 or will it fail? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

What kind of interface are you landing on the 4500?

We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.

If its fiber then no it won't work, they both have to be the same interface speed. . If its copper then the interfaces are 10/100/1000 and should work fine . If you have to do stuff like trunking from cisco to bay then it gets a lot more interesting . :)
