I got my hands on a 4000 M+ router which did not have a flash chip. I purchase a 8mb flash chip and inserted into the memory bank but I get a error when i boot up. Here is my console config: It seems to recognize the module. There is a IOS image loaded already on the flash. I can't reflash the router because i can't assign a ip address also I think the 4000 does not support xmodem transfer. I am able to get into Router(boot)# Could I load the IOS from here? Any steps i should do, thanks.

If the chip you bought has 4000 code on it, then all you should have to do is change the config-register 0x142(this one also ignores config), 0x2102(recommend), or 0x2142(this one also ignores config). If not, then:
You can load the router from the Router(boot)# Prompt. Use normal commands to turn on an interface and give it an IP address, and gateway if you need it. I could sit here and write the rest of the directions, but instead I will send you to a link.

Thanks for the info guys, personally i think is the wrong flash chip. When in I do a copy tftp flash i get a error stating" Flash address space not found". I'm getting a diffrent chip let's see how that works, thanks.
