Hello all.

We have 2 cisco cat 2950 switches in our server room. The guy maintaining it left and we arent able to contact him to get the password. I found instruction on how to reset the password. But before i went ahead and did i, i went to see what else i can dig-up before doing it. I did a network scanner on our network and the 2 switches showed up. ( i used Languard network scanner) within the results the 2 switches shows up as.

IP# (Cisco - Servers)(cisco)
IP# (Cisco - Client )(cisco)

Im new to doing stuff to cisco hardware. What is this server/client thing? Would changing the password mess up the configuration of client/server?

thanks
Laura

Server ,client is used in a trunking environment where you need to have multiple vlans traversing the same connecting . The server has control over what is allowed on the links . That description that you gave could just be what the previous person named the switches where you have clients (users) on one switch and all your servers on the other switch.

So lets say it wasnt just the names of the switch and that its a Server/client used in trunking like you mentioned.
So if i went ahead and reset the password as described here (on one of the switches first, everything would load back and there will be no problems in them operating with each other correct??

Thank You
Laura
