I'm trying to upgrade the ios of a 2900 and am having touble. Can someone please assist? I tried loading via console/hyperterm but could never get to rommon. I consistently tried pushing several keys(esc, control c, cntrl break) on startup but, the switch just started up regularly. Any assistance is appreciated.

The 2900 has a button on the left hand side (front) of chassis that needs to be depress and held until the light on the first port goes out. Then it will load up in RMON.

You don't need to get to ROMMON to upgrade the IOS on a 2900 (I assume a 2900XL Model?). You need IP connectivity between the switch and your PC; the upgrade is done via TFTP and a Terminal session (either console or Telnet). If you read the release notes it explains the procedure.

You will need a TFTP server application if you are using Windows - search for 3cdaemon on google, its a freeware Windows TFTP server from 3Com (other bits as well - FTP Server, Syslog Server & TFTP client).

Good luck

I was thinking of trying the tftp way but I dont see how to connect to the switch. I am unable to assign an ip address to the switch ethernet0 interface. I'm not sure why.... any suggestions??

You put the address under "interface vlan 1" then do a no shut . If you are using your own pc as the tftp server then the switch address would have to be in the same address space .
