Hi all,

I`ve got a cisco 2621XM which has possible faulty component. Here`s the symptoms ,When you start it up you can type from hyper terminal stright away but all you get back is rubish ( se below)

óóóóóóó×óóó×Óó×óÓóóóóóó×ó×óóóóóó×ÓÓóóóóóóó óÓ×óó×óó×óóó óÓóóó×óó×óóóóóóóóóÓóóóóóóóó×óóó×ó×ó×óó×óó óÓó óóóó×óóóó

You get non of the usual cisco text whatsoever on boot up. i`ve been advised to change the flash and dram but i think its somthing on the board thats causing the issue , any help would be helpful

thank you!

It sounds to me like you've for the wrong baud settings set in Hyperterminal. Typically Cisco devices support:

Bits per second: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None

Try these and see if you can see normal text. If not, I suspect someone has modified the Bits per second to something other than 9600. Unfortunately there is no easy way to determine what this is because you can only tell from the router in Hyperterminal (confreg) mode.

If this is the case, I would keep modifying the Bits per second value and retry your Hyperterminal connection each time. Eventually you will find the right Bits per second setting and as soon as you do, the text will appear normally.

Hope this helps

Kiscokid is correct , either your hyperterminal is setup wrong or someone messed with the config register settings on the router which could change the baud settings also . You'll probably have to mess around with the hyperterm settings until you get it list correctly and then verify the config register is set correctly.

Many thanks to you both ! the hyperterminal speed was set to 115200 on the router
